Welcome to St John's
As you may be aware we were recently rebuilt as part of the "Building Schools for the Future" programme and moved into our new premises in 2010.

St John's has a long history of providing successful education for the young people of Gravesham and other parts of Northwest Kent. Over the years we have grown into a school of nearly 1200 pupils. However, because of our unique structure we can maintain the intimacy of a small community many benefit from at their Primary school.

Within our school we are divided into three communities. Children are members of St Patrick (Green), St Ambrose (Blue) or St Clare (Purple) Community. These are not unlike the Houses found in other schools but have a more modern approach than that system. They are similar to a "two form entry" Primary school but with all the benefits of a large modern Secondary school built for 21st Century education.

We are a Catholic Comprehensive school. Those two words - Catholic and Comprehensive - can mean the same thing - universal. We are a school for both boys and girls; we accept all abilities between the age of 11 and 19. We are a multi-ethnic and multi-cultural school. Whilst we are a Christian community we have always welcomed pupils of other faiths. We are very proud of our heritage of inclusion and this will remain our position in the future.

For all latest news and what's going on in our school, please feel free to look around our website and contact us for any further information.

British Council's Award for St John's

St John’s successfully achieved  the British Council’s Intermediate level of the International School Award in December 2011. This recognises the good work the school is currently undertaking internationally and its promotion in our curriculum.

Sleep-out Charity Fundraiser

St John’s Catholic Comprehensive School challenged students to give up their warm bed for one night on Friday the 11th November. Working together, 52 students and 7 staff spent a sponsored night sleeping outside.  They set up base with cardboard and sleeping bags to help raise awareness about the issues around homelessness, and to raise money for a local homeless charity Emmaus.   Overall approximately £700 was raised for this worthy cause.

Belfast Competition Trip

The Competition

In June 2011 St John’s engineering students took part in a Kent district competition. The competition was to invent a new form of wind energy generator to maximise profits. 9 schools took part and had the task over 2 days to build a wind farm within a simulated budget of 6 million pounds and predict a forecast over 25 years. St John’s students came second in the competition and were awarded a trip to attend a wind energy conference in Belfast.
