The first major change in education for many years is happening. Schools are seriously looking at embracing new technologies to enhance the learning experience.
We, at St John's, are very fortunate to have just moved into our completely new school building under the "Building Schools for the Future" programme. It is not like the schools of the past. It is not a new "old" school but a 21st century centre of learning.
The first children who will join us in September 2010 were born in 1999-2000. They were the last children of the 20th century and they will live their lives through the 21st. We hope they will become the people to influence the 22nd century.
St John's Catholic Comprehensive has three separate communities within the one school. The three communities are St Patrick, St Ambrose, and St Clare. Each community will be the learning base for a maximum of 380 pupils, thereby increasing the sense of family and security which can sometimes be lost in a school of over 1140 students. |

St John's will be celebrating moving into the new school with a showing of 'Nostalgia'. Entertainment of the past and present will be performed by current and former students. Let us take you through the years with music, dance and gymnastics. The event will take place in the 'Heart Space' of the new school, on the evening of the 8th (invitation only), 9th and 10th of September from 7.00 pm - 10.00 pm. Places are limited so please book tickets early. A letter and reply slip for your place is available by clicking the read more below. At St John's we are very pleased with our results.
We have had an exceptional year for exam results, all as a consequence of good teaching and hard work.
Last week at A Level day we had a greater number of A and B grades than ever before. The new A* was to be found in abundance. One student achieved 3A*'s and 1A in Maths, Further Maths, Physics and Chemistry.
The most important thing was that so many got their places at University even with the cut backs being forced on Higher Education.
Our GCSE results are setting news records. The five A*-C grades has never been in the 70's. This year at 78% of candidates achieving 5A*-C or better we nearly made the 80's. This figure and our 52% five A*-C including English and Maths are results that all can be proud of.

Staff moved into the new building on the morning of 14th July. Mr Peter Queree cut the ribbon and made the first foot print into the new school.
