Recently, at the National Teaching Awards Ceremony held at The Theatre Royal, Dan Walton was named Teacher of the Year in a Secondary School. Dan, who has taught Maths at St Johns Catholic Comprehensive for 8 years, competed against 40 teachers from the UK to win the award.
He is described by pupils as being inspirational and a 'legend'. His lessons are always innovative and fast paced, making learning maths fun. He uses quiz- show style games and asks pupils to text in answers. He said, " I try to make sure that every time the kids leave the classroom they have learnt something new".
Mr Stanley, nominated Dan for the award, and says, "Mr Walton's pupils consistently get GCSE results two grades higher than predicted, and our A'level students' are achieving sucessess which compare with any of the Kent Grammar schools".
After the award, Mr Walton said "This is something the school, children and community can be really proud of, and I am pleased to be part of that". Congratulations, Dan! - he thoroughly deserves his success.
