From the 4th January we will be raising expectations and standards in uniform, and would appreciate your continued support in ensuring students are dressed in their correct uniform.
Students must be dressed in either the old or new uniform, and should not mix the two. A full uniform list can be found on the school website here.
2010 will be a special year for St John's, as we move into our new multi-million pound school. The new school uniform and PE kit will be compulsory from September.
Outdoor wear (coats/scarves etc.) must be black or navy. Shoes must be black; no trainers, boots, or plimsolls. Girls' trousers must be tailored, and not skin tight. Fleeces, sweaters, hoodies are not to be worn under blazers. Only black V-neck jumpers or cardigans to be worn. Blazers are to be worn at all times.
From 4th January, students who are not in correct uniform will be refused entry. Students who live close to the school will be sent home immediately to change.
Students who live further away (eg Dartford, Strood, New Ash Green) will have to go direct to their community office and parents will be contacted to take their child home or bring in their correct uniform.
Staff will be on duty to meet and greet students in the morning. Items not part of the correct uniform, such as hoodies or fleeces, will be confiscated at the school entrance. Students will be able to collect the item from their community office at the end of the day.
At this time of year, due to the cold weather if students wear boots to school or other non-uniform items, they must bring their uniform and shoes to change into (boots are not allowed to be worn in school).
Please could we also remind Sixth Form students that the dress code is smart casual - no denim or boots. Uniform footwear rules do apply to Sixth Form students.
We thank you for your co-operation and support in taking pride in our school uniform.
New addition to the school uniform
To ensure that each student can easily be identified as a member of a community, we will be supplying them with an iron-on coloured motif. The motif needs to be attached to the blazer lapel as shown in the picture.
If a student misplaces their motif, a replacement can be purchased from the school, or at The Sewing Shop in Echo Square, at a cost of £1.
