E-Safety Update

The E-Safety evening for parents held in October 09 raised issues around Safer Internet use for our students. We raised awareness of support available, in particular, the parents section of CEOP (Child Exploitation and Online Protection) website. We were delighted with the positive feedback.

Five Year 9 Gifted and Talented ICT students have won a European E-Safety film competition held by CEOP.

Young people from around Europe were asked to create a short film in response to the statement 'Think Before You Post'.

Our students had just one week to develop their ideas and complete the short video. Having written the script, and storyboarded their narrative, the film took one day to shoot, and another day to edit. Their entry was then posted on a YouTube Channel for the 'Think You Know' competition.

The students' film was the overall winner for the 11-16 age category. The five students visited the CEOP Centre on Safer Internet Day where they were presented with certificates and prizes from Jim Gamble, Chief Executive Officer of CEOP and Alan Campbell, MP of Crime Prevention.

To support the positive ethos of working together we promoted the European Safer Internet Day within school on the 9th February. All learning groups had the same e-safety focus:

To promote safer practice when using the internet and to share good peer advice.
